What the repair involves
The photo eyes, brackets, wiring, power and opener response are checked. Remote controls and keypads are tested separately so a control problem is not confused with a door problem.
The photo eyes near the bottom of the opening form a safety beam. If the beam is blocked or the sensors lose alignment, many openers will refuse a normal closing command or reverse the door.
The sensor itself may not be defective. Dust, a moved bracket, damaged low-voltage wire, a loose terminal or direct light can produce similar symptoms, so alignment, lenses, mounting and wiring are checked before parts are replaced.
Remote problems have a different path: battery condition, programming, lock mode, receiver operation and radio interference. Testing each control separately prevents a remote fault from being confused with a door or opener fault.
Safety first
Do not bypass or permanently defeat the safety sensors. They are part of the opener's required protection system.
