Signs this system needs attention
- Grinding or popping while moving
- The door shakes through part of its travel
- A roller wobbles or binds
- The track is visibly bent or loose
What the repair involves
The travel system is inspected from the bottom brackets through the curved radius. Worn or damaged components are identified, fasteners and alignment are checked, and the door is cycled after repair.
Roller construction affects noise and travel. A worn bearing, damaged wheel or bent stem can make a roller drag instead of turning freely, which adds resistance throughout the door's movement.
Roller and track faults can sound similar. A roller problem may follow the door through much of its travel, while a bent or misaligned track often causes a repeatable bind at the same point, including through the curved radius.
Resistance in the travel system also increases load on the cables, springs and opener. Identifying the exact source helps avoid replacing parts that are not responsible for the noise or shaking.
Safety first
Track brackets and hinges support and guide a heavy moving door. Do not loosen structural hardware while the door is suspended.
